The MANAGEMENT TEAM at Mineral Wells Senior Center
It takes a dynamic, caring Team of energized people to keep an organization like this alive and growing. The Cross Timbers Senior Citizens Task Force is blessed to have these highly qualified management personnel in place.
Executive Director
Alexis “Lexi” Perez, Executive Director
Head Cook-Kitchen Manager
Janice Boyd, Head Cook and Kitchen Manager
The Mineral Wells Senior Center is fortunate to have such an efficient and knowledgeable Kitchen Manager as Janice Boyd
Her mother started teaching Janice to cook when she was 8 years old. Her parents worked opposite shifts, so when her dad came home, he had to have dinner. But she told us that as she grew up, she did not want to cook again.
Janice wanted to be a nurse, but when she first saw blood, she passed out, so that experience squelched the thoughts of a nursing career. One of her teachers said that there are a lot of things you can do to help people, and she asked if Janice liked to cook, and she said she knew how. The teacher introduced Janice to the dietary department. There, Janice learned how people received their food and about special needs that are on their diets.
She attended college, majoring in food service, and took a national test to become a certified dietary manager.
According to Janice:
“I learned all about cooking and how to make different foods. I love to cook and to see people enjoy something I made. I think that food could make you happy, even if you’re having a bad day. I like to see people happy on a bad day and to share so much love in this world that I can, because life has so much unhappiness, and food shouldn’t be one of them”
Assistant Executive Director
Shawna Collins, Assistant Executive Director
Shawna Collins started her journey at the MWSC in January of 2024 as the kitchen manager and head cook. She was actually not looking for a job when she was approached by the director and offered the position.
Here is Shawna’s personal story
“I believe God closes doors and opens new ones. With my many years of food experience, I was definitely qualified for the job; however, I put her off for 3 weeks while I prayed about this. I spoke with my family, and all agreed this was definitely a God thing. So I called and I agreed I would accept the position. Since then, I have made many friends, lots of memories, laughed, and shared tears with our participants, as they are like family. I was blessed to be able to find an amazing replacement cook and was promoted to Assistant Executive Director in June 2025.
I love this position as it allows me to have time to be involved in all the happenings at the center. I love everything that the Mineral Wells Senior Center is about. I love being involved in all of our activities and being able to love on each of our participants. Sometimes they just need a hug and a listening ear; however, they always appreciate a smile and kind words. Kindness is very important in this day and age. I strive to make sure, no matter what, I treat each one with as much kindness as I possibly can.”
